Walter S. Stone, 75

Walter Stone

PORTER — Walter S. Stone, 75, of Porter (Kezar Falls), passed away on Friday, March 17, 2017, at his home, after a long illness.

He was born in Hanover, N.H., on May 2, 1941, the son of David W. and Rena L. (Lambert) Stone, and attended Vermont grammar schools. His family moved to Maine when he was in his teens, and he graduated from Porter High School. He met the love of his life, Carol Ann Davis, in 1958, and they were married on Aug. 25, 1962.

Walt and Carol settled in Kezar Falls and raised their family surrounded by the love of their parents. While raising his family, Walt worked for the Kezar Falls Light and Power Co., which became Central Maine Power Co., where he worked for 42 years. He was a longtime member of the Kezar Falls Volunteer Fire Department, really enjoying being a member of the “Firemen’s Muster Team” over the years.

Walter was a faithful member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Limerick, and very involved with the Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed going dancing with his wife and friends, gardening, hunting and fishing, camping at Locklin’s Campground, woodworking, and cheering on the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox.

Most importantly, Walt was a devoted husband, dad and grampa. He could always be found cheering on his children and grandchildren at sporting events, band and chorus concerts, musicals, plays, academic events, dance recitals, and more. He was happiest gathering around tables with family and friends, sharing stories, enjoying a good meal, and laughing.

He will be sadly missed by his family and all who loved him.

Besides his beloved wife, Walter is also predeceased by two brothers, Roger and Robert Stone; and sister, Sandy Sluis.

Surviving are his daughter, Laurie Richmond of Hiram; three sons, David Stone of Carrabassett Valley, Michael Stone of Lebanon, N.H. and Everton Arruda Costa of Rio de Janerio, Brazil; his brother, Tim Stone of Cornish; two granddaughters; as well as several nieces and nephews, and a large, loving extended family.

Visiting hours will be on Monday, March 27, from 5 to 7 p.m., immediately followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Watson, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple Street, Cornish. A funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, March 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 19 Dora Lane, Limerick. Burial will be in Kezar Falls later in the spring.
