CASCO — A month from now, the use of the Casco-Naples Transfer Station will be limited to one lane as upgrades kickstart.
The improvements for which the towns of Naples and Casco floated bonds in 2022 will start this fall — in mid-September, according to Naples Town Manager Jason Rogers.
“The transfer station work is set to start on Sept. 16. We will keep one lane open,” he said.
Residents dropping off municipal waste are being asked to be mindful that there will be only one lane, Rogers said.
The upgrades to the transfer station will take about six weeks.
“That work will be completed Oct. 25. We will have a paved surface and a new traffic flow by the winter,” Town Manager Rogers said.
Once that is finished, the reconstruction of the bulky waste facility will occur, closing that to the public for about almost three months.
Construction at the bulky waste facility is set to start Oct. 28 and be wrapped up by Jan. 9, he said.
For the duration of time that the bulky waste is closed, residents can use Casella Waste Systems on their own dime, Rogers said.
J Pratt Construction, Inc., will be doing the work. J Pratt was awarded the bid earlier this winter and has been working with the town on a timeline that has the least impact to the public. The Casco-Naples Bulky Waste and Transfer Station Council awarded the bid and agreed upon construction times with the least impact to residents.
“The goal is to have it (bulky waste) up and operational during our busiest months,” Rogers said.
“Come next summer, they should have a new system,” he said.
The bulky waste will switchover from paper coupons to Radio Frequency Idenfication (RFID) cards to keep track of how many pounds residents drop off.
