CASCO — The municipal meeting ended with the selectmen saying someone stole their thunder.

Everyone wanted to give a shout out to Casco Days.

At the end of the Casco Board of Selectmen meeting, it was time for comments from the members of the board.

Selectman Scott Avery was the first to say that he wanted to give a plug to Casco Days.

Right away, Chairman Mary-Vienessa Fernandes said she had wanted to give a plug to the annual event, which like many public festivals was cancelled last year because of COVID-19.

Avery encouraged people to make plans to attend Casco Days. It kicks off Thursday, July 29, when the mid-way opens and fireworks are held at dusk.

“If you’ve never been to Casco Days, get out and enjoy it,” Avery said.

Selectman Bob MacDonald said he expected that there would be a really strong turnout for the town’s festival. He said the recent quarantineof 15 months, where people were fearful of catching COVID from one another, has made people eager for social activities.

He said it’s likely that Casco Days will be more popular than ever.

Holly Hancock agreed.

“I think it is going to be [well-attended] because people have been locked up so long,” Hancock said. “It is going to be a screech.”
