Samuel H. Ring Jr.
SOUTH PARIS — Samuel H. Ring Jr., 73, of Lovell passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025, at the Market Square Health Care facility.
He was born Feb. 23, 1951, in Bridgton, the son of the late Samuel and Rebecca (Emery) Ring.
Samuel attended and graduated from Fryeburg Academy and was a well-known painter and cartoonist in the area. Sam was always an independent thinker and his love for learning never diminished. His desire for creative expression expanded during mid-life when he was able to spend more time doing the things he loved: Reading history of all kinds and being the guitarist in the small band he formed with his friend Bob Bell. He volunteered for the North Lovell Library and the Lovell Historical Society. Sam traveled in Northern New England and Quebec, exploring the villages and back roads with his friend Sandra. He experimented with new artistic techniques, painted socio-political art and continued to draw cartoons for his friends on the spur of the moment. His interest in religion from a historical perspective led him to debate with anyone regarding religion. He loved to care for pets and to help his friends and family with whatever was needed.
He is survived by his sister Linda Drew and her husband George of Fryeburg; and brother David Ring and his wife Pat of Casco. He also leaves his niece Laurie Doane and her husband Alfred of Fryeburg; and his nephew Kyle Ring, great-niece Rebecka Drew and her fiancé Brandon Simmons, and great-nephew Robert Drew and his friend Danny, also his great-great-niece Lillian, along with close friends Sandra and her son Richard, Tommy Knox and Warren Richardson.
He was predeceased by his loving parents Samuel Sr., and Rebecca Ring, and his nephew William Drew.
In keeping with Samuel’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. At the convenience of the family, there will be a gathering in the spring.
In lieu of flowers those wishing may make a donation in Samuel’s memory to the Harvest Hills Animal Shelter, 1389 Bridgton Rd., Fryeburg, ME 04037.
