Ruth Johnson, 103
KISSIMMEE, FLA. — Ruth McKeen Lord Johnson, 103, was enjoying life until a fall following hip surgery two days before. Ruth passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2019. She had lived permanently in Good Samaritan Village since 1995.
She was born on Oct. 2, 1916, to her parents, Willis and Laura McKeen of West Paris, where the three of them resided.
Ruth’s life was interestingly full — a farmer’s daughter, caregiver to her mother, for years supporting them. She managed a college degree in both music and being a typist, earning her a top prize in a typewriting contest from a bar exam of Maine. In 1959, Ruth and Wyman Lord were married, he a school teacher and she a paralegal for Judge Bernard Cohen of Brockton, Mass., while building their new home on Haskell Hill in Bolsters Mills.
From retirement, they were hardworking farmers. They were lifetime members/officers of the Grange (Past Master), Eastern Star, and churches. All becoming too much, they began to spend winters at Good Samaritan Village in Kissimmee, Fla., from January 1981. While living in Florida, Ruth directed and played piano for a senior citizen band called the Merritones.
On Dec. 6, 2017, Ruth and Daniel Johnson were married, with a honeymoon cruise plus other trips fulfilling two last happy years.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Dan. Her sole survivor of the Lord family is her niece, Barbara C. Dalgaard and husband Jim. She is also survived by nephews.
A memorial service may be announced at a later date.
