Ruth H. Whitney, 95
NAPLES — Ruth Harmon (Louise) Whitney, 95, of Naples passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born Ruth Louise Harmon in Westbrook on Sept. 15, 1919, to Mr. Arthur Harmon and his wife, the former Ms. Amanda Lariviere, she was home in Maine for all of her days.
Mrs. Whitney was wed for 64 years to her beloved Edgar, who predeceased her in 2004. Ruth and Edgar shared the unusual distinction of both being born one of a set of twins. Ruth’s brother, however, did not survive childbirth, but Edgar’s sister Edna lived a full life with a family of her own.
Ruth was a simple country girl, who worked at the mill in Westbrook for many years, and upon her retirement from there in 1981, she and Edgar were blessed with many years in their comfortable waterfront cottage in Naples.
Raised one of four children, Ruth has lost both her parents, and was predeceased by her three sisters, Wilma, Grace, and Avis. She also lost an infant son, Donald in 1943, but drew her lifelong strength from her love for her four children: Nancy L. Carr of Brunswick, Joyce E. Favreau, also of Brunswick, Ronald E. Whitney of Windham, and Ellen L. Yue of Scarborough.
Ruth greatly enjoyed the company and visits of her 11 grandchildren, and leaves behind 16 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held at the Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church Street, Westbrook, on Thursday, May 7, from 6 to 8 p.m., and a funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow immediately after at Woodlawn Cemetery, Stroudwater Street in Westbrook.

To be sure, Ruth greatly enjoyed the aroma and color of flowers, but a donation to a worthy charity or cause may be of greater honor to her.
