Russell J. Allen, 72
LOVELL — Russell J. Allen, 72, of Lovell, Maine, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019.
He was born on Nov. 3, 1946, the son of Howard and Winona Allen, of Lovell. Russell graduated from Fryeburg Academy, Class of 1964, before proudly serving as a Courier in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. In July of 1969, Russell and Penny (Heath) Allen, of Lovell, were married. They had two sons and shared forty-five years together, before her passing in 2014. Russell was known as a generous caretaker — of his wife, and of the people within his community.
Russell worked as the maintenance man for the Severance Lodge Club for many decades. He was a handy man and continued to work, and help others, even after his retirement. In his spare time, Russell enjoyed building projects, woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his loyal cat, Tiny. Russell was a hardworking, thoughtful, and generous man. He will be sadly missed by so many, especially his close friends, and the residents of the Lovell community.
He is survived by his son, Kevin Allen and wife, Julie, of Fryeburg; brother, Wayne Allen, of West Paris; granddaughter, Tanner Rose Swan, of West Paris; great-grandson, Lucas Robinson, of West Paris; and his nephew, Richard Dunham, and wife Barbara, of Cape Elizabeth.
Russell was predeceased by his parents; his loving wife; his son, Mark Allen; sister, Irene Dunham; brother, Michael Allen; and niece, Cathyne “Coffee” Hopler.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m., at the #4 Cemetery in Lovell. Arrangements are under the care of Wood Funeral Home, 9 Warren Street, Fryeburg.
