Rotary Good Citizen: Rebecca Roy

Rebecca Roy of Bridgton has been selected as the Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club’s “Citizen of the Month” for November.

Each month, the Rotary Club recognizes a Lake Region High School student who displays good citizenship and contributes to the school community. The recipient is presented a monetary gift.

Activities: Soccer, Lacrosse, Class Officer, Varsity Club

Community activities: Interact Club, National Honor Society, Project Planet, Rec soccer and lacrosse volunteering. 

Hobbies: Skiing, hiking

Future plans: Attend college to become an Athletic Trainer. 

Schools that you have or will apply: I have applied and been accepted to the University of New England, Colby Sawyer, Plymouth State, Northern Vermont University, Castleton University, and Endicott. 

What do you consider as traits that make someone a good citizen? The traits that I would consider to make someone a good citizen would include being caring, compassionate, kind and most importantly involved.

Who has inspired you to be a good citizen and why? My parents have inspired me to be a good citizen because they both are great citizens themselves. 

What have you done to make the school community a better place? I have volunteered with the Interact Club for the time capsule event, planting flowers for the Yellow Tulip Project, and helping to clean up the Bridgton American Legion. I have done roadside clean-ups with Project Planet and I have also volunteered time to help with rec soccer and lacrosse programs. 

Why is volunteerism important? Volunteerism is important because it allows you to connect with people in your community, as well as making it a better place for everyone. 

In the future, what do you see yourself doing to make the world a better place? In the future, I see myself doing things like coaching youth teams in my community, as well as finding ways to be as involved as possible!
