Richard L. King
LOVELL — Richard Leroy King, of Lovell, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at home after a three and a half year journey with leukemia that had more bright moments than low, with his loving wife of 64 years, son, friends and doggies.
Richard served in the U.S. Navy, both in World War II and the Korean War. He was also a firefighter for the city of Lynn, Mass., for 30 years, before retiring to Maine. In retirement, Richard humbly and with great joy and respect served as a Gate 9 Security Officer for the Fryeburg Fair in Fryeburg for 33 fair seasons, and also fulfilled many other service-oriented activities.
Richard is survived by his wife Norma C. "Sunshine" King; and his son Douglas Scott King, who resides in Florida. Their beloved daughter, Linda Gayle King, will be greeting her dad in heaven with joyous smiles.
A memorial service will be held, along with a Military Color Guard ceremony, on Saturday, April 11, at 2 p.m., at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 42 Sweden Road, Bridgton. A gathering of friends will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Norma King, as funding will be set up for a child to attend a summer resident camp of Richard and Norma's choice. They both served as camp personnel for 26 consecutive summer seasons. Thank you!
Arrangements are made with Wood Funeral Home, Fryeburg. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.woodfuneralhome.org
