Richard J. Card, 68
CASCO — Richard Joseph Card, 68, of Casco, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Mercy Hospital, surrounded by his family.
He was born Oct. 27, 1949 in Portland, the son of the late Lester S. and Maria L. Card. “Rick†was a graduate of Cape Elizabeth High School.
He was a skilled carpenter, who specialized in historic renovations in the downtown Portland area. Clients knew him as the “Magic Man,†as he always built what seemed impossible, with a touch of his creativity and unique character.
Though he was a brilliant and inventive carpenter, Rick would want to be remembered as a passionate guitarist and lyricist, who wrote 26 original songs, and spent his Friday nights creating music with his devoted band mates.
Friends, family, neighbors and clients, knew Rick was the man who they could rely on — always finding a solution, always recognizing the good in a situation. In his latest years, Rick enjoyed time as the captain of his pontoon boat on Sebago Lake with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Douglas J. and Peter J. Card.
Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Vicki L. (Cole) Card; his daughter, Risa M. Card “Monks†of Raymond; siblings, Luisita J. Smith of Durham, Raymond J. Card of Portland, Joseph R. Card of Topsham, Linda Shosky of Washington State; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., on Saturday, May 19 at Windham Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee, 434 River Road, Windham. A time of visitation will be held from 3 p.m., until the start of the service. A celebration of life will be held lakeside at a later date.
