Richard E. Kiper

Richard Kiper

Richard E. Kiper, 88, of Bridgton passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, after surgery.

He was born on Sept. 23, 1933, in Williamsport, Pa., the son of John F. Kiper and Coral Mae Pittenger Kiper.

Richard served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1955. Richard worked at the Bridgton Shoe Shop. Richard was Bridgton’s Berry Man, selling berries every summer on the corner of Main Street and Gibbs Avenue in Bridgton. He volunteered at the Bridgton Food Pantry, made jams, pickles and canned tomatoes for friends. He spent many hours at Ovide’s Used Cars between berry seasons keeping them on their toes.

He loved babies and crocheted beautiful baby clothes. He loved dogs, from his beloved Boxer Samantha to his friend Lori’s Basenji, that he always lovingly claimed as his own.

Richard will be sorely missed in our community.

He is survived by brother Donald D. Kiper and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Bridgton Food Pantry or the Harvest Hills Animal Shelter.
