Ralph Guptill

Ralph Franklin Guptill, 92, of Fryeburg passed away on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025, at Bridgton Hospital, with loving family by his side.

He was born in Stow on March 18, 1932, the son of Wallace and Ethel Emerson Guptill. He grew up in Stow, the youngest of four children and only son with three sisters Frances, Shirley and Cassanda.

He was in the Fryeburg Academy class of 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean war and was an Outpost Harry Survivor as well as a decorated veteran of the 3rd Infantry Division.

He married Phyllis Thomas on October 26, 1957. They raised three boys together: Thomas, Terry and Russell. Along with many other neighborhood children who were always welcomed with open doors.

After retiring 25 years as a foreman for the State of Maine Department of Transportation, Ralph drove an oil truck for Ossipee Oil, worked for Bailey Manufacturing, and later delivered parts for NAPA.

He was a Past Commander and Treasurer of VFW Post #6783. He helped with caring for the town flowers, was a life-time Red Sox fan and an avid reader.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years Phyllis; sons Thomas (Debbie) of Denmark, Terry (Tamylea) of Fryeburg and Russell (Kim) of Albany, N.H.; six grandchildren Mike (Kate) Cumberland, R.I., Derek (Dara) Denmark, John (Heidi) Charleston, Maine, Lea (Andy) Fryeburg, Jenn (Nick) Sanford and Monica (Nick) Portland; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his siblings Frances Patten, Shirley Emery and Cassanda Guptill.

Graveside services with military honors will be held in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery in Fryeburg. Date and time to be announced.
