Player of the Week: Sanjay Tucker
Sanjay Tucker is one of the most dependable and versatile members of Lake Region’s boys track and field team, according to Coach Dana Caron.
“He can throw the shot put and the javelin, with improvement in both on a weekly basis, and can also be relied upon to run in the 4X100 relay. More importantly, though, Sanjay is always willing to listen to coaches’ suggestions on ways to improve in his events, and will help lead his team in drills and warm-ups during practices,” Coach Caron said. “Since he’s only a sophomore, I look forward to a few more seasons working with him. Thanks for a great season, Sanjay!”
In recognition of his strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Sanjay is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed t-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.

Q. Why did you choose to compete in Track & Field? I do track because I enjoy the social aspect and spending time with friends, as well as I enjoy being active and participating in my school by playing a sport.
Q. What is the most difficult part of Track & Field? I think the most difficult thing is breaking down your own mental walls. Sometimes, you think you cannot improve or you are in a bad mood and you don’t perform the way you want. You just have to revamp your attitude and put in the effort.
Q. What do you enjoy the most? I enjoy the quality time you spend with your classmates and the friendships formed during the season.
Q. What do you feel you need to work on and why? I feel that I can work on improving my personal strength so I can throw farther and with more force.
Q. Why is teamwork important? Teamwork is important because people can’t always do everything on their own. When one learns to trust and rely on their teammates, it provides a better environment for all and makes the sport more enjoyable.
Q. What is the biggest impact your coach(es) have had on you? I think that the largest impact that my coaches have had on me is that they have provided me with countless amounts of information, tips and guidance that allow me to progress in my field.
Q. How do you want people to view you as an athlete? I want people to view me as a player that does his best and puts in the utmost effort. I don’t claim to be an all-star and don’t want to be seen as one. I would like to be seen as an average student that also loves to participate in school sports and the type of athlete that anyone can be.
Q. Ten years from now, when you look back on your high school sports career, what do you think you will remember most? I think that in 10 years I will look back and remember the many hours spent at track meets, both indoor and outdoor. I will remember the feeling of beating a PB (personal best), and I will remember the excitement before a race.
