Player of the Week, Riley Boutilier
Freshman Riley Boutilier brings a certain enthusiasm and drive that boosts the energy of the Lake Region cheerleading program.
“Riley joined our winter cheer sideline squad as well as our competitive cheer team this season. She has been willing to take on new challenges and is always trying to improve on the skills she is learning this season at the competitive level,” Lake Region Coach Janine Rocca-Chaine said. “Within a very short time, her growth is apparent and noticeable to all! Even in the hard moments, she shows commitment and perseverance. As a teammate, she has fit right in and has become a core member of the squad. I look forward to watching her thrive in her newfound sport.”
In recognition of her strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Riley is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed t-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.

What do you find most challenging about the sport? One of the most challenging things is “Fake it until you make it.” You have to be super cheerful and happy but sometimes it’s not actually super happy. We put in a lot of work, which a lot of people don’t see or understand. But we always have to have smiles and positive things to say or think. A lot of the time, you fall or get hurt and or can’t get a cheer down. It’s frustrating, but like they say, practice makes perfect.
What goal did you set for yourself this season, and what will it take to reach that goal? My one goal was to try new things and have full faith in myself and my teammates. I know how hard my team and I have worked together with how far we have come. I am so proud of my teammates.
What is your favorite sports memory and/or achievement (explain why)? My favorite memory is the night before our second competition of the season. We went to an Airbnb just to hang out and relax before our competition. We did karaoke and played games and had Vylet’s mom, Gale’s amazing enchiladas. They were the best I have ever had.
How has sports made you a better person? I think it has made me a better person with working out problems and communicating thoughts and feelings.
Name a teammate or coach you admire and explain why? Jayla Davis is one of my best friends. She has helped me through so much. I had thought about not doing cheer, but she convinced me to. I am forever grateful for her.
