Player of the Week, Kaylee Maguire
Kaylee Maguire is a “workhorse” on the Lake Region varsity volleyball team, according to Coach Ryan Shible.
“A junior, Kaylee brings experience to our team, especially with playing in tough, close matches. As our setter, she is involved in 99% of our plays at the front of the net in some capacity, and she has regularly demonstrated that she can make clutch plays when needed to end a play for a side-out,” Coach Shible said.
Coach Shible said Kaylee Maguire did a “fantastic job” setting up front row hitters in recent matches against Edward Little and Portland.
“Kaylee always puts 100% effort into every match, as well as demonstrating outstanding hustle and work ethic in practices and games,” the coach added.
In recognition of her strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Kaylee is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed t-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.

Q. What do you find most challenging about volleyball? I am really hard on myself, and what’s most challenging is when I mess up, I get so angry. It is hard to keep a good mindset so we can have good energy on the court.
Q. What goal did you set for yourself this season, and what will it take to reach that goal? A goal for me is to try and be a good role model for my teammates, to be someone they can look up to.
Q. What is your favorite sports memory and/or achievement? My favorite memories are when we have our team bonding, and everyone is together, we all are laughing and have a really good time.
Q. How has sports made you a better person? Sports have made me more social and step out of my comfort zone.
Q. Name a teammate or coach you admire? Coach Ryan Shible. Mr. Shible had these summer camps every year and they would just go over the basics of volleyball. When I was 10, I started to go to those camps and it would be so fun, he would help me if I was struggling with anything. I learned many techniques with his help.
