Player of the Week — Jo-Hannah Vincent

Jo-Hannah Vincent

Senior Jo-Hannah Vincent continually brings positivity to her Lake Region varsity volleyball team, by encouraging her teammates in practices, as well by cheering them on during games, according to Coach Ryan Shible.

“Jo-Hannah has also been a great role model for hard work and commitment to her team this season,” he noted. “Jo-Hannah has worked hard to improve her serving since last season, and is now one our team’s hardest and most reliable servers. She has earned 17 aces so far this season. Jo-Hannah has also been working on improving her hitting in practices, and as result is our team’s top scorer, with 87 kills so far this season.”

This past week, JJ earned 10 kills and had blocks against NYA, “along with some really strong serving, which helped us to maintain our offensive momentum throughout the match!” Coach Shible added.

In recognition of her strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Jo-Hannah is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed t-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.

Q. What is the most important lesson you have learned from playing sports? I have learned that you should practice whenever you can but also find a way to keep up with your studies.

Q. What do you enjoy most about volleyball?I enjoy having the bond with my teammates and supporting them by cheering them on.

Q. What is your strength, and what do you need to work on? My strength is helping others understand the game. I need to work on keeping my head up on the court or out on the softball field.

Q. What do you like most about your team? I love how my team communicates very well with each other and how we bonded on the bus rides back from away games; those are definitely things I will miss.

Q. What have you learned from your coaches? Coach Shible has taught me how to be a leader and understand the importance of teamwork throughout my four years of playing volleyball. (In softball), Coach Rock has taught me to understand what it means to be successful and if you work hard enough you can play even harder.

Q. Best sports moment? During my senior season, the best part of volleyball was when I blocked a girl hitting the ball and everyone was cheering. Also, the bus rides back from the away games. Varsity would sit in the back and play a game called paranoia and it was amazing. We definitely bonded even more this year than the past years.

Q. Most disappointing sports moment? The most disappointing moment was when I almost threw my arm out during volleyball. I was serving the ball and it was close to be the game point. I went to hit the ball and felt something pop. But I am good. I took a couple days and took it easy.

Q. Finish the following, “I will consider this a successful sports season if… we win another game to make it four games this season.”

Q. My future plans are…going to college to play volleyball or softball and see if I can become a criminologist.
