Player of the Week: Jason Harlow
Jason Harlow is a very important player to the Lake Region varsity boys’ soccer program, on and off the field.
“A season ago, he was the team leader in goals and assists. As a quiet leader on this team, he wears his heart on this sleeve. I’ve been lucky enough to watch him grow as a player and a young man. You very rarely find a player that is equally talented with both feet,” Laker Coach Ryan Harlow said. “During soccer season, you can find him on a soccer field seven days a week between high school soccer, refereeing recreation and travel soccer games and helping with youth practices. He had an outstanding preseason with nine goals in four games.”
In recognition of his strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Jason is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed t-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.

Q. Why did you choose to play soccer? Because I love to play soccer.
Q. What is the most difficult part of the game? Playing against dirty opponents.
Q. What do you enjoy the most about the sport? The feeling I get while I am playing — just the joy to be on the field.
Q. What do you feel you need to work on and why? I need to work on trusting my teammates because I have been playing with a small group of guys for a while, so I have trust in them but now I am playing with new players I don’t know as well.
Q. Why is teamwork important? No one player can beat a team, but if you work as a team and have fun, you can beat anyone.
Q. What is the biggest impact your coach(es) have had on you? You can be winning games and still not have fun on a team. The coach has a big part in that. My sophomore and junior years have been greatly enjoyed because of my coaches.
Q. How do you want people to view you as an athlete? Goal scorer and playmaker.
Q. Ten years from now, when you look back on your high school sports career, what do you think you will remember most? How much fun I had with the team.
