Freshman Caleb Aker has a lot of potential and upside as a member of the Ice Cats hockey team.

“Caleb is a great young player. He brings a toughness to his game and he is a great attitude guy in the locker room,” Ice Cats Head Coach Wayne Neiman said. “Caleb is someone who always is positive minded and continues to work hard and understand the higher-level game. Looking forward to seeing him take a big step forward next year for the program.”

In recognition of his strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Caleb is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed t-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.

What are three key elements to be successful in your sport? I think three key elements are trying hard, rest and hard work.

What is your goal(s) this season, and how do you reach them? Get better and listen to the coaches’ advice given to you.

What is the most difficult aspect of your sport? Opponents you go against.

Finish this line, “It’s been a good sports day if….” the ice is good.

How has sports helped in your development as a person? Built friendships that will last a lifetime.

What lesson have you learned from a coach or teammate that you will long remember? A good teammate will have your back no matter what.
