PORTLAND — Philip E. Morton, 81, of Naples, died Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

He was born on July 22, 1939, in Naples, a son of Philip and Alice C. (Doughty) Morton and attended local schools.

As a young man, he began his working career at Dielectric in Raymond. He later went to work for Southworth as a machinist and began getting into sales, which he also did for Wiltsie selling heavy equipment.

Phil later started his own company, PEMCO, which focused on material handling and warehouse logistics. He sold, built and installed everything from loading dock bumpers to sophisticated conveyor systems. In the early 1990s, Phil moved to Rangeley after many years in the greater Gorham area. In Rangeley, he owned and operated the local NAPA store.

He returned to his home of Naples in the early 2000s, but surely not to retire. Phil was busy all of the time whether it was fixing a neighbor’s lawn mower, “wheeling and dealing,” or delivering firewood to nearby campgrounds and homeowners.

Phil really enjoyed life and the people that he crossed paths with on his journey. He was very active over the years in various credit unions’ board of directors and will be missed.

He is loved by his wife of 43 years, Karen (Higgins) Morton of Naples whom he married on Feb. 17, 1978 in Westbrook; his sons, Philip A. “Dana” Morton of Buxton and David Morton and his wife, Dottie of Waterboro; two granddaughters, Amanda Owen and Shannon Morton; great-grandchildren, Sydney, Alexander, Peyton and Quinn; many nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law Beth Webster and her husband, Bob of Westbrook and brother-in-law, Tom Caufield of Gorham.

He was predeceased by his two siblings, Richard “Red” Morton and Joan Hess.

Memorial visitation for Phil will be held from 1-3 p.m., on Friday, July 16, 2021, at the Hall Funeral Home, 165 Quaker Ridge Road in Casco. Condolences and tributes may be shared with his family and friends on his Tribute Wall at www.hallfuneralhome.net.

Gifts may be given in Phil’s memory to Pine Tree Camp or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
