Norma May (Duckworth) Vivian, 94, died peacefully at home on September 20, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

Norma was born in Pawtucket, R.I., on May 17, 1927, to Alice and Arthur Duckworth. She attended Pawtucket West High School, where she met the love of her life, Bob Vivian. She graduated in 1945. Norma and Bob married on June 10, 1950. Norma embraced her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, great-grandmother, and friend, and she dedicated her life to taking care of those around her.

Norma always enjoyed a visit to the beach for clam cakes and chowder, knitting and leading her church’s prayer shawl meetings, and singing in the choir. But she most cherished time spent with her family. Norma’s proudest moments were seeing all of her children and grandchildren go to college, something she wasn’t able to do.

Norma taught us to love deeply, to give generously, and to always leave room for dessert, lessons we will carry with us forever. She was a constant and loving presence in our lives, and we will miss her dearly.

Norma was a loyal communicant of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Cumberland, R.I., and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Bridgton.

Norma was predeceased by her husband of 71 years, Robert Vivian.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Barbara Vivian Marshall and Bruce Marshall; Doug Vivian; John and Susan Vivian; and Ken and Kathryn Vivian; her grandchildren, Brett and Natasha Marshall, and Caitlin Marshall Walusiak and Ed Walusiak; Kelsey and Michaela Vivian; Lea, Sara and Matthew Vivian; her great-grandchildren, Sienna, Reese and Grant Walusiak; her brothers-in-law, John Vivian and Richard Vivian; her sister-in-law, Dawn Vivian; and her nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 42 Sweden Road, Bridgton, Maine on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at 1 p.m. Given the prevalence of the COVID Delta variant, for the health and safety of everyone, we respectfully ask that those attending the service be fully vaccinated and wear masks inside the church.
