Nelson Gouterman, 80

DENMARK — Nelson B. Gouterman, 80, of Denmark, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, at Clover Manor in Auburn, Maine.

He was born on Sept. 7, 1938, to David and Jeannette (Selden) Gouterman in the Bronx (N.Y.).

Graduating from Taft High School in ‘56, he later received a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of New Haven (Conn.) in 1979. Nelson went on to work for the Department of Defense in Calif. and later in Battle Creek, Mich., until his retirement in 2001.

Nelson and his wife moved to Denmark in 2007 but Nelson was never one to be idle. He was an active member of the town where he sat on the Planning Board and participated in the Denmark Lions. He enjoyed traveling, fishing and sharing his humor.

Nelson is survived by his wife Christine; his children from previous marriages: Allison Jo and her husband Jeffery Stoutland of Philadelphia, Pa., Karen Elyse Gouterman of Hamden, Conn., Thomas Gouterman and his wife Lisa of Chicago, Ill., and Michael Gouterman, also of Chicago; grandchildren Jake and Madison Stoutland; his brother Ira Gouterman of Carversville, Pa.; and two nieces.

The family would like to thank the staff of Clover Manor and the Androscoggin Home Health/Hospice for the tender loving care they provided.

At Nelson’s request, there will be no services. Those wishing to do so, may make a donation in his memory to the American Parkinson Disease Association.
