Millard C. Spencer
Millard C. Spencer passed away quietly on November 18, 2023, at home.
He was born in Veazie, Maine, and grew up in Bangor. In 1950, he enlisted in the Marines, fought in the Korean War, and was later deployed to Yucca Flats, Nevada, as part of testing of the effects of atomic bombs. He married Mary Elizabeth Goodness in 1956. In 1957, he graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Chemistry.
He worked in the pulp and paper industry, first at S.D. Warren where his work resulted in several patents, later at Honeycomb Systems. He started a consultancy for the paper industry, Spencer Research, which he led until his retirement.
Millard was predeceased by his wife of 66 years.
He is survived by his children: Catherine Spencer DiPietro, Lisa Spencer Kavanagh and Eric Kavanagh, Michael and Julie Spencer, and Susan Spencer and Jay Allen; as well as his grandchildren Chris and Kelly Spencer, Maxwell Spencer, Nicholas Spencer Allen and Lauren Spencer Allen.
A private ceremony will be held in the spring.
