Miles L. Millett
WATERFORD — Miles L. Millett, 69, of Waterford, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, Jan. 10, 2024, at his home in Waterford.
He was born on July 4, 1954, in Lewiston, a son of Alfred L. and Persis W. “Mammie” Millett. He attended local schools, graduating from Oxford Hills High School.
As a young man, Miles worked a short time for RK Brown, Cianbro Corp. and help out at his
parents’ store, Tut’s, where he had a reputation as making the best pizza. He is most known however, for his many years of employment for the Town of Waterford starting in 1976 and retiring in 2020. He also volunteered with the Waterford Fire Department for many years.
His work out of the town garage for all those years didn’t define Miles. It was that larger-than-life personality, giving heart and laugh that gave away his presence in any crowd or room before even seeing him that set him apart. He had a tremendous sense of humor that anyone whoever leaned over the bed of his pickup truck, sat with him at the local store or stopped to visit when he was working alongside the road can attest.
Miles loved his family intensely and surrounded himself with them whenever he could, whether at home or that special place that was his heaven, his camp in Wilson’s Mills.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and seemed to be pretty fond of the lawn mower, mowing countless acres for family. Going for rides around the roads of Aziscohos Lake with the company of his dogs and visiting with whomever would pull up alongside were always a treat. The smelt population of northern Oxford county can rest a little easier now.
Miles is loved by his wife, Carole Millett of Waterford, whom he married on June 1, 1996; his mother, Persis “Mammie” Millett of Waterford; a son, Chad Millett of Norway; a daughter, Buffy Millett of Waterford; a step-daughter, Leeann Merrill of Etna; a brother, Mike Millett and his wife, Cathy of N.H.; grandchildren, Donnie, Nicole, Brittany, Cody, Sabrina, Dakovn, Brayden and Averianna; several great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his father Alfred; a son Jason; a sister, Toni Starbird; a half-sister, Cynthia Bartley.
A celebration of Miles’ life will be held in the summer of 2024 with the time and date to be announced. Arrangements are in the care of Hall Funeral Home, 165 Quaker Ridge Road in Casco where condolences, tributes and “Miles stories” can be shared at www.hallfuneral.home.net.
