Michael E. Field, 53
SCARBOROUGH — Michael Eric Field, 53, of Bridgton, died Saturday morning, Sept. 17, 2016, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
He was born on Nov. 8, 1962, in Lewiston, a son of Ernest W. Field and Linda Cummings. He attended local schools, graduating from Oxford Hills High School in 1981.
Mike worked in HVAC for many years with New England Tech Air and Maine Steel in Scarborough.
His greatest passion was in the fire service, having joined the Harrison Fire Department at 18, where he helped with the construction of the new station alongside his father and sons and had attained the rank of Captain. After a move to Bridgton in 2006, he became a member of the Bridgton Fire Department, but still served as an associate member of the Harrison Department. In Bridgton, he served most recently in the capacity of Captain of the Central Station. He earned many commendations over the years, most notably the Lifetime Achievement award.
Mike enjoyed constructing models, flying drones (an evolution from kite flying that he so loved as a younger man), painstakingly tinkering with anything he could get his hands on, NASCAR racing, but especially the company of his grandchildren, Tyler and Shauna.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl (Tripp) Field of Bridgton, whom he married on July 11, 1981, at Snow Falls in West Paris; his father, Ernest W. Field and his wife, Doreen of Bridgton; his mother, Linda Field of Wolfeboro, N.H.; sons, Eric Field and his wife, Anita of Sebago and Ernest R. Field and his wife, Jessica of Harrison; two grandchildren, Tyler and Shauna Field of Harrison; two sisters, Esther Roakes and her husband, Robert, of Ossipee, N.H., and Tina Field of Casco; three nieces, two nephews, and his beloved cat, Mellow. He was predeceased by his paternal and maternal grandparents.
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Harrison Fire Station, 34 School St., Harrison. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Mike Field’s Final Costs c/o Eric Field at TD Bank, 176 Main Street, Bridgton, ME 04009.
