Mary L. (Griffin) DuBeau, 81
BRIDGTON — We announce with deep sadness the passing of Mary Louise (Griffin) “Mimi” DuBeau, 81, of Bridgton, Maine, formerly of Mansfield, Mass., who lost her courageous four-year battle with cancer, and was called to eternal life on Monday, Sept. 23, 2019, the Feast Day of St. Padre Pio, one of her favorite Saints. She passed away at home under the care of her loving family and Androscoggin Home Healthcare & Hospice. Mary Lou was the devoted, loving wife of James W. DuBeau Sr., to whom she was wed for the past fifty-eight years.
She was born on July 30, 1938, and raised in Newark, N.J., first daughter of the late Charles and Madeline (Hanly) Griffin. After losing her mother at age twelve, she was raised by her dad and aunt Margaret “Dolly” Griffin. Mary Lou was a 1958 graduate of St. Vincent Academy High School in Newark, N.J.
Mary Lou was a joyful homemaker and mother, raising six children, but she also worked many part-time jobs through the years. For the last twenty years, Mary Lou and Jim enjoyed life in Bridgton, and golfing with the Lake Kezar Golf Club in Lovell during the summer months. During the winter months they spent time in Hudson Fla., and golfed at Summer Tree Golf Club.
Other interests in her lifetime included running many local road races including ten marathons, 4 on the Fourth in Bridgton, skiing, traveling, camping, poker, bingo, cribbage, and she even owned and rode a motorcycle in the 1970s.
In addition to her husband James, Mary Lou leaves behind her devoted six children: James DuBeau Jr. and his wife Gisele of Brockton, Madeline O’Callahan and her husband Brian of Wakefield, Mass., Joseph DuBeau and his wife Kelli of So. Kingston R.I., Martine Palanza and her husband Richard of Mansfield, Mass., John DuBeau and his wife Kristine of Mansfield, Mass., and Mark DuBeau and his wife Karen of Walpole, Mass. She was the dear sister of Anthony Griffin and his wife Judy of South Orange N.J., and the late Bartholomew Griffin and his late wife Frances, and the late Martin Griffin.
Mimi is also survived by her treasured grandchildren: Charles, Annemarie (DuBeau) Couturier and her husband Ed, James III, Katherine DuBeau, Anthony and his wife Margarita DuBeau, Brian, Kerri, Brendan and Nolan O'Callahan, William, Beau, Mariana, Paden, Rico, Gabriella and Lorenzo Palanza, Vail, Luke, Brooke and Jace DuBeau, Kevin, Kelsie and Molly O’Brien, Sarah Rose Beatrice and Nicole Garcia. She was the cherished great-grandmother of Dean and Reese Couturier, and Savanna and Summer Garcia.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday, Sept. 27. from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Sherman and Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield, Mass.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m., in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106), Mansfield, Mass. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary Lou’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
