LR Drama Club presents ‘Little Shop of Horrors’

Lake Region High School Drama proudly presents its production of the cult classic musical, Little Shop of Horrors!

Based on the book and lyrics by Howard Ashman and music by Alan Menken, Little Shop of Horrors tells the story of Seymour Krelborn, a meek floral assistant who discovers an unusual plant with a mysterious craving for human blood.

Performances will take place on Jan. 17, 18, 24 and 25 with shows starting at 7:30 p.m. and Jan. 19 and 26 with matinees starting at 2 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door at $15 for adults and $10 for students/seniors (65-plus). Unique raffle baskets will also be available. Tickets are $5 for 10 tickets.

As the curtain rises and the lights shine bright, the Little Shop of Horrors seniors’ step into the spotlight. Let’s meet them:

Atticus Armstrong

Introducing Atticus Armstrong

Atticus is from Naples; parents are Nancy and Todd Armstrong.

Atticus will be playing the role of an Urchin (Chiffon). When asked why they decided to audition for the show, Atticus responded, “Theater is a passion I’ve had since freshmen year so I wanted to continue. Theater is a fun and active activity I can do that’s also accommodating. It’s also really fun to watch the show slowly come together over time.”

Atticus has been in the following high school shows: The Addams Family, Cinderella, Clue, 12 Angry Jurors, and Anything, Goes. They also performed in Lake Region Community Theatre’s presentation of Beauty and the Beast.

Atticus would like to go to college for speech pathology but pull a Tolkien and use that for detailed fictional worlds with their own language. What form will that be in? At this point, good question.

Greg Blackwell

Introducing Senior Greg Blackwell

Greg is from Naples; parents are Dennis and Jessica Blackwell.

Greg will be playing the role of Mr. Mushnik. When asked why he decided to audition for the show, Greg responded, “This seemed like a fun show. I love the sense of community being in theater offers.”

Greg has been in the following shows: The Plot Like Gravy Thickens, Cinderella, Clue, and Anything, Goes.

Greg would like to go to college and study History and maybe become a teacher or an author.

Elise Conover

Introducing Senior Elise Conover

Elise is from Casco; parents are Elizabeth Conover and Erik Conover.

Elise will be the radio announcer, in the ensemble, and the understudy for Skip Snip. When asked why she decided to audition for the show, Elise responded, “Little Shop of Horrors is my favorite musical. I enjoy being a part of something and making new friends; also, the snacks.”

Elise performed in 12 Angry Jurors and others from different schools.

Elise plans on going to college to become a pharmacist. In the future, she would like to travel and have a family.

Shannon Goguen

Introducing Senior Shannon Goguen

Shannon is from Naples; parents are Heather Laforge and Joe Goguen.

Shannon will be playing the role of Mrs. Luce. When asked why she decided to audition for the show, Shannon responded, “I love working with Janet and it’s a good show. I like the fact of involving myself in a wonderful program that is full of talent and superb personalities.”

Shannon has performed in a lot of shows but not as many as she could have but overall, 7.

Shannon would like to be a baker.

Eva Fickett

Introducing Senior Eva Fickett

Eva is from Naples; parent is Rachel Boyer.

Eva will be playing the role of Crystal. When asked why she decided to audition for the show, Eva responded, “I like the movie version. I enjoy being with my friends and singing. It’s also really nice to go through the show process.”

Eva has been in the following shows at LRHS: The Plot, Like Gravy, Thickens, The Addams Family, 12 Angry Jurors, Cinderella, Clue, and Anything, Goes as well as Beauty and the Beast with Lake Region Community Theatre.

Eva would like to go to the University of Southern Maine and study Early Childhood Education and keep doing theater on the side.

Emma McKenney

Introducing Senior Emma McKenney

Emma is from East Baldwin; parents are Jennifer and Ben McKenney.

Emma will be playing the role of Crystal, one of the Urchins. When asked why she decided to audition for the show, Emma responded, “I auditioned for Crystal because I thought it would be fun to get out of my normal roles. I enjoy being involved in theater because of the thrill of going on stage and acting.”

Emma has been in a lot of shows beginning in middle school and continuing in high school with The Plot, Like Gravy, Thickens, The Addams Family, 12 Angry Jurors, Cinderella, Clue, and Anything, Goes as well as The Sound of Music and Beauty and the Beast with LRCT.

Emma plans to attend college and earn her associate’s degree in Culinary Arts. When her degree is completed, Emma would like to start her own business and own a food truck.

Kirey Prieshillia

Introducing Senior Kirey Prieshilia

Kirey is from Indonesia and is living in Casco with her Host Mom Wanda Plummer; parents are Afri Ruddin and Livo Bethricx.

Kirey will be playing Patrick Martin and is also in the ensemble. When asked why she decided to audition for the show, Kirey responded, “I’m an exchange student from Indonesia and I wanted to have more experiences. I have made a lot of kind and supportive new friends during this production. I also had the chance to know what it feels like being in an American high school musical.”

Kirey has been in a lot of original shows in her school and community theater back home but this is her first ever musical!

When Kirey returns to Indonesia in June, she will repeat her Senior year and will continue her studies at Indonesia’s Institute of Arts.
