Lake Region Community Theatre is thrilled to announce its upcoming production of the beloved musical, The Sound of Music. This timeless classic, written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, will enchant audiences of all ages with its captivating story, iconic melodies, and unforgettable characters.

Set in Austria on the eve of World War II, The Sound of Music tells the heartwarming tale of Maria Rainer, a young aspiring nun who becomes a governess for the seven lively and mischievous von Trapp children. As Maria’s free spirit and love for music breathe life into the von Trapp household, she captures the heart of their stern and widowed father, Captain Georg von Trapp. Together, they face challenges, embrace love and music, and ultimately find the courage to follow their dreams.

The Lake Region Community Theatre has assembled an exceptional cast of talented local performers to bring these beloved characters to life. Leading the production, Maria Rainer will be portrayed by the very talented Isabella Wears. Opposite Isabella, joining LRCT after a long hiatus will be Chris Madura portraying Captain Georg von Trapp, bringing both strength and vulnerability to the role.

The von Trapp children will be played by a talented ensemble of young actors, each portraying their characters with unique personalities and infectious energy. Audiences will fall in love with Liesl von Trapp, played by the delightful Alice O’Connor, as she discovers the joy and complexities of first love. Joining her are her siblings Friedrich, played by the spirited Buddy Tucker; Louisa, portrayed by the lively and playful Lucy Payne; Kurt, brought to life by the engaging Elliot Condon; Brigitta, played by the perceptive Keira Sawyer; Marta, portrayed by the adorable and innocent Truly Grard; and Gretl, played by the youngest and most adorable performer, Isla Scannell.

Playing the sophisticated and elegant Elsa Schrader will be Teresa Dyer and playing the role of the charismatic and witty Max Detweiler will be Bob Sawyer. Mother Abbess, Carolyn Allen, is known for her powerful singing voice and her solo performance of “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” is one of the musicals amazing moments. The role of Rolf will be played by LRCT’s veteran actor, Payson Avery.

LRCT’s very talented nuns, novices, and postulants are played by Nicole Cox-Landers, Julie Frum, Vicki Norris, Kate Akeley, Zoe Cummings, Katie Edwards, Lilah Landers, Emma McKenney, Evelyn Morey, Lauren Murphy, Jennifer Perrault, Susan Rose, Megan Sawyer, Theresa Sawyer, and Ella Tilsley. Also joining the cast are Scott Avery, Nora Condon, Timothy Holbrook, Jackie Karnoff, Briggs Landers, Bill Libby, Mathilde Messick, Stephen Mosley, Kathy Rose, Amy Richard, Laura Varney, Brad Wears, Malachi Wears, and Riley Wears.

Under the direction of Rob Juergens, Lake Region Community Theatre’s production of The Sound of Music promises to transport audiences to the enchanting world of the von Trapp family and leave them humming beloved songs like Do-Re-Mi, Edelweiss and Climb Ev’ry Mountain. Music director, Betty McIntyre, has put together an outstanding orchestra that will bring the music to life. Choreographer, Ciara Harriman has created dance numbers that are dynamic and complement the music. Do-Re-Mi is a very energetic number and it finds one wanting to sing-along.

“We are thrilled to bring The Sound of Music to the Lake Region community,” says Janet Ver Planck, producer. “Our cast and crew have poured their hearts and talents into this production, and we cannot wait to share it with everyone.
