For over two decades, Beth Latsey of Naples has been a driving force in shaping and supporting youth sports in the Lake Region.

Having served as a Rec Director in both Naples and Casco, Beth was honored last Thursday night at the Lake Region Senior Game for her dedication and hard work by being the recipient of an award, which will bear her name.

Lake Region Athletic Director Paul True made the following announcement:

“Given annually to a Lake Region girls’ basketball supporter who best exemplifies what Lake Region girls’ basketball stands for — teamwork, sportsmanship, dedication, loyalty, and the desire to win — I am so excited to be making this presentation and unveiling this award that will be given annually in honor of tonight’s recipient. Coach Banks brought this idea to me over a year ago and wanted to establish an award on the girls’ basketball side that emulated the Bill Shane Award given on the boys’ side.

I have had the pleasure of getting to know this recipient over the last 21 years. She has served our communities for over two decades as a very supportive parent, a board member of Lake Region Youth Basketball, facilitated our Annual Rec Play Days that is a highlight for so many every year, a Naples and Casco Recreation Director, and she was responsible for bringing the Harlem Wizards to our community.

For years, she would organize community fan buses that would make the annual trips to tournament and state basketball games, paint her face blue and gold and cheer her heart out for the Lakers. She singlehandedly has had an impact in more lives of the youth in our community than anyone I know. She is humble and won’t be happy about this, however, the Beth Latsey Girls’ Basketball Award will now forever hang in our school. Ladies and gentlemen please help me recognize, Beth Latsey.”
