Q. What do you believe are three keys to being a good student? I strongly believe that the three keys to being a good student are discipline, curiosity, and resilience. Discipline ensures consistent effort and time management, essential for all classes, especially the more challenging ones. Curiosity drives exploration and deeper understanding, fostering a genuine love for learning. Without it, school will feel like a chore rather than something stimulating and enjoyable. Resilience helps navigate challenges and setbacks inevitable in cases, fostering perseverance and growth. Together, these qualities form a strong foundation for success in both academics and more importantly, life. These skills help empower students, just like myself, to embrace challenges, seek knowledge beyond the classroom, and persist in the face of obstacles.

Q. What is your favorite class and why? 2D Design will always be my favorite class. This was due to its ability to push me and help me grow and become confident in a creative space. Through the help and guidance of Mr. Carlson, I discovered my skill and passion for graphic design, sparking the idea to pursue it further in college. By challenging and expanding my design abilities through the most interesting assignments, it was within Mr. Carlson’s classroom that I found a passion that I feel is worth going for.

Q. Who is your favorite teacher and why? Mr. Coady and Mr. Carlson stand as my most influential teachers. Mr. Coady helped me break through the mental barriers I had placed on myself, showing me I was capable of success in hard classes. His constant support and understanding led to my growth and self-confidence in academics.

Meanwhile, Mr. Carlson has guided me and supported me to take the leap and pursue graphic design. Through his guidance, I found the courage to pursue graphic design and marketing in college.

Their combined impact has shaped me into a resilient, daring student, equipped with the skills and passion for my future endeavors.

Q. If you could change one thing about your educational experience, what would it be and why? If I could change one aspect of my educational journey, it would be experiencing a “normal” freshman year. My first year of high school was during 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic was in full effect. Instead of the excitement of navigating a new school, making friends, and jumping right into extracurricular activities, I found myself confined to remote/hybrid learning and isolated from the typical high school experience. It wasn’t until my sophomore year that I truly felt like a high schooler.

Q. What accomplishment are you most proud of, and why? One accomplishment I am the most proud of is my participation in the skiing community. From earning recognition like the Carol Youker Award to my four-year Western Maine All-Conference athlete, I’ve both excelled and been inspired by others around me. I am always looking to grow as a skier. Because of this, I have found a love for helping others grow on the slopes. At Pleasant Mountain, where I instruct three to six-year-olds, I’ve become one of the most highly-rated instructors. Teaching Level One students how to love and excel at skiing makes me so happy. I take pride in being a part of helping a new generation find a passion and enthusiasm for the sport regardless of their age or level.
