Q. What do you believe are three keys to being a good student? I think the three most important things are dedication, perseverance, and kindness. Dedication and perseverance will get you through almost all of your academic struggles, and kindness is just a good trait for anyone to have. I think everything would be a whole lot better if we had more kind people dedicated to making the world a better place.

Q. What is your favorite class and why? My favorite class at the moment is definitely Quantitative Physics. We just finished building a giant slingshot that we used to launch a tennis ball, which is a project that I have been wanting to do for several years. I love getting to plan experiments with my classmates and learning some new math.

Q. Who is your favorite teacher and why? I have way too many awesome teachers to pick a favorite. My math teachers — Mr. Coady, Mr. Johnson, and Mr. Snow — have inspired me to explore teaching as a possible career. They are a large part of the reason I enjoy math so much. All of my teachers have been patient and understanding whenever I am struggling, which I will forever be grateful for.

Q. If you could change one thing about your educational experience, what would it be and why? I would have liked to take more art classes. I didn’t take any art classes until my junior year because of all of my other required classes. I think taking more classes that I was actually interested in would have made my first few years of high school a bit more bearable.

Q. What accomplishment are you most proud of, and why? I was recently named a National Merit Commended Student, which is an honor I have been working toward since my sophomore year. I put a lot of work into studying for the PSAT and I was extremely proud of my score.
