Judith Genesio, 77

Judith Genesio

Judith Genesio, 77, of Bridgton, passed away at her home Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020.

Born October 10, 1942, in Portland, she was the daughter of Russell and Geneva (Ladd) Haggett, and grew up in Bridgton, spending her early childhood on Pleasant Mountain where her father owned and operated the Pleasant Mountain Ski Area.

She was a graduate of Bridgton High School, attended the University of Southern Maine, and worked locally her entire life — including positions at the Book Review of Falmouth and Maine Medical Access as a representative payee for clients with disabilities.

Judy was a voracious reader, loved sewing and knitting — and created many business endeavors with her fine array of dolls and handmade crafts, and was a part of the Maine Difference in Bridgton. She gave generously to her community, volunteered for the Bridgton Community Center, and had dedicated years helping others with early stages of dementia and Alzheimer’s. She was a compassionate, deeply honorable, and civic-minded person — true Maine stock. She was involved in many organizations including the early years of Veteran’s for Peace, and loved being active, and she was involved in the Bridgton Chapter of Tai Chi of Maine.

She is survived by her partner and soulmate Peter Berry; a son and three daughters; Mark Genesio and wife Karen Genesio of So. Portland, Lauri Genesio of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Kristy Genesio Dixit and husband Shobhit Dixit of Youngsville, Louisiana, and Cheri Theobald and husband Jeff Theobald of Las Gatos, California; seven grandchildren, Erik, Tayla, Nicholas, Joseph, Cassandra Judith, Camielle Nicole, and Kate; three great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Lizzy, and Kyra Jolie; two sisters, Janet Underwood and husband Walter, and Jackie Shur and husband Scott; four nieces and nephews, 11 grandnieces and nephews, multiple cousins and friends, and her cat and companion Izzy of 13 years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the Bridgton Community Center, 15 Depot St., Bridgton, Maine 04009. Arrangements are under the care of Chandler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 8 Elm Street, Bridgton.
