Jonathan ‘Scott’ McClean, 68

Scott McClean

Jonathan “Scott” McClean, 68, of Norwell, Mass. and Hancock Pond in Denmark, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 5, 2021, after a brief but intense battle with pancreatic cancer.

Scott was born on Feb. 26, 1953, to J. Donald and Ann S. (Silva) McClean. He grew up in Quincy and graduated from Newman Prep in Boston and then from Dean Junior College. He worked for many years for McClean Steel Co. in Quincy before starting his own company, JSM Custom Engineered Products, first in Plymouth and then in Hanson, Mass., selling custom aluminum extrusions for the past 25 years.

Scott was a friend to all and was known to be very generous with family, friends, and acquaintances. He had a good sense of humor, always had a story to tell (they were sometimes hard to follow), and he could strike up a conversation with anyone and could always make the most arbitrary connections between people. He and his smile will be sorely missed by all who have known him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Jacky; their three sons, Douglas of Weymouth, Mass., Kevin of Ashland, Mass., and Andrew of South Portland; his three beautiful grandchildren; his sister, Kathleen of Kronberg, Germany; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Marc.

Scott had many golfing trips in his earlier years, and he thoroughly enjoyed boating. He and his family loved to travel and have spent every summer at their cottage in Denmark. In recent years, he and Jacky spent a month or more every winter in Key Colony Beach, Fla. Some of the places the family visited included Mt. Desert Island in Maine, Alaska, Australia and New Zealand, Bermuda, Aruba, St. Thomas, the British Virgin Islands, and many ski trips to New Hampshire, Maine, Colorado, Utah, and Montana.

A memorial service was held on Friday, Aug. 6, in Massachusetts.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, The American Stroke Association, or Autism Speaks. For an online guestbook, please visit www.mcnamara-sparrell.com
