John Hejduk

LEWISTON — John U. Hejduk, 68, of Geneva, Ohio, formerly of Naples, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2024, at the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston after a brief illness.

He was born on Sept. 1, 1956, in Geneva, Ohio, son of the late John and Maryann (Bukky) Hejduk. He attended local schools in Madison and graduated from Madison High School.

After graduating from high school, John enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam and Germany with the 11th Cavalry. While in Germany, he met his wife Deborah Jordan (be sure to ask how they met if you don’t know). They were married in Windham, on June 29, 1982, and celebrated their forty-second wedding anniversary. They made their home in Naples, at that time.

John worked as a school bus driver for MSAD #61 and was employed at the Lake Region Lumber Co. in Casco until the time of its closing. John was also a member of the Naples Fire Department for eight years.

In 1993, John and Debbie moved to John’s hometown of Geneva, Ohio, where he worked for Lake County Engineers. Upon his retirement, he drove a school bus for Ashtabula City Schools. John was an avid gardener and a member of the American Legion and the VFW. John also loved his annual trips back to Maine to visit with family and friends.

John is survived by his wife, Deborah of Geneva, Ohio; his daughters, Aimee Nelson and her husband Josh of Ashtabula, Ohio; Rebekah Orsulic of Geneva, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Josh, Steven, Alissa, Trevor, Drake, Taylor, and Zach; two great-grandchildren, Raelyn and Kennedi; siblings, Joey Hejduk of Madison, Ohio, Michael (Chad) Hejduk of Mentor, Ohio, Annie Hejduk of Mentor, Ohio, and Diane Schmidt of Madison, Ohio.

A celebration of life will be held in Geneva, Ohio, at a later date
