PEABOBY, MASS. – John E. “Jack” O’Malley, 88, beloved husband of Dorothy (Holt) O’Malley, died Thursday, April 9, 2020 at the Rosewood Healthcare Center in Peabody, Mass.

Born in Milton, Mass., he was the son of the late Thomas and Alexandrine (Lambert) O’Malley. He was raised in Milton and Hyde Park and attended the Boston public school system.

An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a Corporal in the 7th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

John was a Local 25 Teamster for more than 37 years prior to his retirement.

A longtime resident of Peabody, he was an active and devoted member of the West Congregational Church in Peabody. John was also a longtime summer resident at his second home on a lake in Harrison. He loved to play the banjo, reading and listening to music. He had a great love for animals, especially his beloved cat, “Bella.” Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage, he is survived by two daughters, Kathryn Ann Kingsbury of Lynnfield and Shauna Marie O’Malley of Peabody, Mass.; three grandchildren, Jeni Clark of Lewiston,  Nancy DeLeonardo and her husband, Kirk  of Franklin, Va. and Laura Demidow of Tucson, Ariz.; four great grandchildren, Caleb Demidow of Wakefield, Mass., Alexander Clark of Maryland, Jenna Gurules of California and Jacob Zacharias of Key West, Fla.; a sister, Rita Reardon of Peabody, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was also the father of the late Cheryl Lynn Demidow and brother of the late Barbara O’Malley, Sally O’Malley and Thomas O’Malley.

His funeral services will be private.
