Cmdr. John Edwin Ebinger (USNR, Ret.), 90, of Harrison, died peacefully with family by his side on Thursday, June 30, 2022 after a short illness. 

John was born June 9, 1932 in Canton, Ohio, and he graduated from Lehman High School and the University of Cincinnati, where he earned a metallurgical engineering degree. After graduation, John was commissioned in the United States Navy Reserve and worked in naval cryptology, where he met his wife of 65 years, Betty Smith Ebinger. Together, they moved to North Canton, Ohio, where they raised five children, and where John worked first as an engineer, and subsequently as a science teacher and high school swimming and diving coach at Hoover High School. Retirement took them to Charleston, S.C. and Harrison, where they had adventures and joy with friends and family, including seven grandchildren. 

A memorial service will be held at United Parish of Harrison and North Bridgton at noon on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. A Celebration of Life event for family and close friends will be held following the church service.
