John C. Hunt, 78
NORTH BRIDGTON — John Curtis Hunt, 78, of North Bridgton, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019, after a valiant battle with a glioblastoma, brain cancer.
He was born on March 10, 1941, in Flint, Michigan, the son of the late Carl C. and Irene (Crawford) Hunt. He joined the United States Air Force in 1961, serving four years, nine months. He served as a Senior Airman E4 and was last stationed at Dow Air Force Base in Bangor, Maine, where he met and married the love of his life, Colleen F. (Jordan) Hunt on December 29, 1962.
He cared about people and was a friend to every human and animal he met. He also had a love of nature and the great outdoors. He always said that it was in the great outdoors that he felt the closest to God.
He was a Master Plumber, owning and operating John’s Plumbing and Heating for 40+ years. Tragedy befell the family on several occasions but he always persevered with the help of his family, friends, and community.
He belonged to multiple local organizations. He was a Master Mason belonging to Oriental Lodge #13, AF&AM, Bridgton. He also belonged to Pondicherry Chapter #192, Order of the Eastern Star, Bridgton. He was an adult supporter of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls, and was a Master of the Grand Cross of Color. He was also a member of the Order of DeMolay as a young man.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Colleen F. Hunt; children, Heather IH Ellsmore (Roger, Jr.), of Harrison; and Michael C. Hunt (Eileen) of Cerritos, Calif.; his grandson Christopher A. Ellsmore, White Pine, Tenn.; and his granddaughter Andrea I. Hunt, Cerritos, Calif. He is also survived by siblings Carol Hunt, Jerry-Ann Duarte (Frankie D.), and Daisy Colleen Hunt, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Tanya Marie Hunt (11 years old) and granddaughter Mande Marie Hunt (an angel baby). He was also predeceased by his brother Walter L. Hunt.
At John’s request no funeral services will be held. He did request that any gathering should include music, food, and laughter. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Kendall C. Ham Masonic Hall, Rte. 117, Bridgton, on Saturday, June 22, from 2 to 4 p.m.
