Joan Isaacson

NAPLES — Joan Lemieux Isaacson, 90, of Naples, Maine passed away on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 9, 2021, at home with her daughters by her side.

Born in Ogdensburg, N.Y., on May 21, 1930, she grew up in St. Regis Falls, N.Y., (the eldest of four children: Bill, Jack and Jim) and helped in the family grocery store while growing up.

Joan graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in Malone, N.Y., and later attended Green Mountain College in Vermont.

Joan fell in love with a handsome N.Y. State Trooper, Robert Isaacson, where she worked as a secretary at the barrack. They were married for 67 years and raised four children on a 165-acre farm in Hillsdale, N.Y.; Peter (Beth) of St. Regis Falls, N.Y.; Bob (Kathy) of Franklin, N.C.; Lauri Pshenishny of Boca Raton, Fla.; and Holly of Naples.

Joan worked as an administrative assistant for many years. She held positions at Roeliff Jansen Central School to the vice principal and guidance counselor; Fairview Hospital administrator; Simons Rock Admissions Department and the Independent newspaper. Joan also assisted her husband who was a Hillsdale, N.Y., town judge as his secretary.

Joan loved to cook and bake for her family. Favorite recipes included lasagna, chocolate chip cookies, and donuts for large family celebrations. Joan was an avid reader, bringing home stacks of books from the town library. She loved to watch the Boston Red Sox.

Joan and Bob travelled frequently in their retirement. One trip was to Europe to celebrate the 50th anniversary of WWII where Bob served with the 101st Airborne. They attended many family graduations and weddings where you could see them floating across the dance floor.

In 1986, Joan was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. The family farm was sold and the couple built homes in Palm Coast, Fla. and Naples, Maine. Later, they settled in Naples year-round where the spent many hours on Sebago Lake with family.

Joan leaves behind four children, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren (with two more on the way).

Predeceased by her parents, William and Genevieve Lemieux, husband Robert lsaacson, son-in-law David Pshenishny, and brother Bill Lemieux.

She will be laid to rest at St. Anne’s Cemetery in St. Regis Falls, N.Y. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held later this year.
