Isabel Macht named KLWA’s Joan Irish Award recipient
LOVELL — Isabel Macht of Lovell is the 2024 recipient of the Joan Irish Award from Kezar Lake Watershed Association!
The award recognizes a deserving graduating senior from Fryeburg Academy who resides in the watershed, shows serious interest in the environment, and intends to pursue that interest in college and beyond. Given annually since 2008, the award is in memory of Joan Irish, KLWA’s longtime president.
KLWA’s mission is to preserve, protect and maintain the ecological, scenic and recreational resources of Kezar Lake and its watershed for the benefit and enjoyment of residents, summer residents, and visitors, now and in future generations.
Isabel is an outstanding award recipient. She was a successful student in honors classes at Fryeburg Academy, with a love of science and history. She was an active competitor in cross country, track and field, and Nordic skiing. And, she demonstrated serious concern for the environment through her participation in the Academy’s Green Team. She intends to study Nutrition Science and Public Health in college. Isabel is still deciding on her plans for the fall and will likely attend either University of Wisconsin or a college in Wageningen, The Netherlands. She hopes to pursue a career in food insecurity, farming, or nutrition, and is determined to “feed people without killing the planet.”
KLWA looks forward to working with Isabel this summer to protect and maintain the watershed and further her passion for the environment. Congratulations Isabel!
