Irene E. Morton

Irene Morton

Irene Ellen Morton passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024, after a lengthy battle with heart and kidney disease.

Irene was born on March 30, 1941, to Ralph and Ruth (Meserve) Irish. Irene attended Bridgton schools until she met and married the love of her life, Carroll Morton, in 1956. They made their home in Casco, where they raised their six children. They were fondly referred to as Ma and Pa Kettle.

Irene was a stay-at-home mom most of her life, not caring for just her own children, but dozens of local children over the years that found their way there, being fed, nurtured and scolded. She was also a troop leader for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for her children.

Carroll and Irene took their “vacation” every year at Fryeburg Fair time, and spent it working at the back gate for over 40 years together. Irene later volunteered, then worked for, Casco Rescue until an injury forced her to stop. She volunteered with numerous groups over the years, and was still volunteering at the Raymond Casco Historical Society, CrossWalk Community Food Pantry, and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 155 at the time of her death.

Irene was the last survivor of her generation in her entire family. She was strong-willed, fierce, independent, opinionated, and outspoken yet had the kindest and biggest heart in the world. She would do anything to help anyone out. Judging by the hundreds of people that responded to the announcement of her passing, she had a huge impact on everyone she met, and the Town of Casco.

Irene was predeceased by her husband Carroll, her son Larry, granddaughter Audra, grandson Carroll (Jake), son-in-law Robert Chapman, and son-in-law Jeff Chapman.

She is survived by her sons Carroll, Robert and Wyatt Morton, daughters Tammy Chapman and Hope Chapman. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, and nephews, and many friends who will miss her greatly.

As per Irene’s wishes, there will be a service in the summer when her entire family can be present.

In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to Casco Rescue, Raymond Casco Historical Society, CrossWalk Community Food Pantry or American Legion Auxiliary Unit 155 in Irene’s name.

Arrangements are in the care of the Hall Funeral Home in Casco where condolences and tributes may be shared at www. hallfuneralhome.net.
