Holly B. Hancock
Holly Beth Hancock, 67, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
Born in 1956, Holly grew up in Scarborough, moved in her teen years, and graduated from Oxford Hills High School. She met her husband, Tom Hancock, in 1975 and the two settled in Casco in 1977.
Holly was an active member of the greater Casco community her entire life, a town and a community she dearly loved.
Holly was an active member of the Casco Fire and Rescue for 32 years, serving in numerous leadership roles including Rescue Chief and Assistant Fire Chief. Holly was deeply committed to the Casco Days Association, serving as a longtime volunteer and president. She worked tirelessly and year-round to ensure the continued success of her town’s most beloved yearly event. Holly served on the Casco Select Board as a member and as chair and was the steward of the Lakeside Cemetery. She was a longtime member of the Casco Village United Church of Christ, serving as president, treasurer, member of the Choir as well as spearheaded many significant improvement projects for both the Casco Village Church and the East Raymond Chapel. She served as president of the Betty and Sumner O. Hancock Scholarship Fund. Holly also made significant contributions to many community groups, notably being an active member of the Vendredi Club, a regional Cub Scout leader and organizer, and as a youth soccer coach.
Holly served on the Cumberland County Budget Oversight Committee, Cross Insurance Arena Advisory Board, the Cumberland County Regional Communications Center board, and held numerous positions on state library committees.
A graduate of the University of Southern Maine and the University of South Carolina, Holly held a master's degree in Library and Information Sciences. Holly served as the head librarian for both the Casco Public Library and the Bridgton Public library. She oversaw major modernization projects for both libraries.
Holly loved her dogs Bandit, Jackson, and Blue. She loved spending time in, and exploring, Bailey Island, Maine and Tucson, Arizona.
Holly is predeceased by her father, Franklin, and husband of 41 years Thomas.
She is survived by her mother Sue, brother Brent, sons Evan and Geof and five granddaughters, Lily, Emilia, Adeline, Lucy and Sophia. She also leaves behind many friends and wider family members that were dear to her.
Services will be held in the auditorium at the Lake Region High School on Saturday, September 30 at 10 a.m.
