Gertrude Tenney

Gertrude Alice Knight Tenney, known as Gertie, formerly of Casco/Raymond, died September 14, 2024 at North Florida Hospital in Gainesville, Fla.

She was the daughter of George and Lula Knight, one of five children.

Gertie and Frank moved from Tenney Hill, Casco, to Gainesville, Fla. in 1966. They lived over 50 years in the house they purchased in Gainesville, celebrating many anniversaries and birthdays there. They shared their home on Tenney Hill with various friends and family during the summers. After moving to Florida, they would travel back to the homestead on Quaker Ridge until fall.

She enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader in Casco and worked at Hatchers in Naples. She earned a degree in Accounting. She was, also, a real estate agent for many years in Gainesville, helping families with their first homes and future homes. She also enjoyed family genealogy. Her favorite was sending out over 100 Christmas cards every year, not forgetting all the birthday and anniversary cards also.

She was predeceased by her husband, Franklin Tenney; her daughter Carolyn Tenney Signore Glasgow; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Signore Cox and Michelle Tenney; her parents and two siblings.

She is survived by her son Colin Tenney and two daughters, Rhonda Tenney Crawford and Paula Tenney McLamb; two sisters, Phyllis Richardson of Ansonia, Conn. and Carol Tripp of Gorham; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Per Gertrude's wishes, there will be no funeral service. Her ashes will be buried next to Franklin, at Tenney Hill Cemetery, at a future date, to be determined.
