George T. Odum Sr., 85
RAYMOND — George “Dadoo†T. Odum Sr., 85, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on the morning of Tuesday, March 8, 2016.
He was born in Wilmington, N.C., on June 5, 1930, the son of the late Harlee W. Odum Sr. and Georgie Mae Spooner.
In 1967, George retired as Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of service in the U.S. Coast Guard. After his retirement from the Coast Guard, he worked for and retired from the HP Hood Co. He enjoyed spending time surrounded by his family and dogs. George loved to make people laugh in his own quiet way. He had many hobbies including cooking, reading, coin collecting, listening to music and playing cribbage.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Harlee W. Odum Jr. and John William Odum; and his grandson.
Surviving are his wife and love of his life of 54 years, Nancy (Eaton) Odum; eight children, George Thomas Jr. of South Carolina, Brenda Odum and Mary Cribbs of Gloucester, Mass., Jay Odum of Woburn, Mass., Susan Miller of Raymond, John Odum, Collen Drew of Raymond, Teresa Spearin of Limington and Patricia Armstrong of Andover, Mass.; three stepchildren, Michael Snow of South Portland, Sharon Ames of Steep Falls and Deborah Catterson of Raymond; 42 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday evening at Hall Funeral Home, 165 Quaker Ridge Road, Casco. At 11 a.m. on Friday, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Windham.
