On Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019, Evelyn V. Mercer, 84, crossed over to heaven while surrounded by her loving family.

Evelyn was known for her lifelong passion for animals of all kinds. She especially loved the many dogs that she took into her home over the years. Evelyn had other passions as well, including her appreciation for music. In her youth, Evelyn played the guitar and sang songs with her musically-talented family.

Evelyn was born in Bridgton, Maine, on June 14, 1935, and lived most of her life in this area. Evelyn was a woman of strong faith and enjoyed the simple things in life.

She was predeceased by her husband Myron; her father Richard; her mother Florence; her sisters Beverly, Eleanor, and Goldie; and her brother Jack.

She is survived by her sisters, Ruthie Edson of Swanzey, N.H., and Alice Fogg of Naples; her brother Richard Knight of Feeding Hills, Mass., her son James Mercer of Bridgton, his daughter Jessica and son Daniel; her daughter Linda Mercer of Harrison; her son Steven Mercer of Naples, his wife Heidi and son Nolan of San Diego, Calif.; her daughter Sherry Bedard of Waterford, her husband Bruce and their daughter Lauryn.

A gathering of family and friends to honor her life will be held on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m., at the Chandler Funeral Home, 8 Elm Street, in Bridgton.
