Eunice Elizabeth Fitton passed away peacefully at home on September 20, 2024, where she was born on April 20, 1924.
A lifelong resident of Bridgton, daughter of Thomas Fitton and Hazel (Stiles) Fitton, she attended Bridgton schools. In her youth, she enjoyed working for the family businesses: Stiles-Fitton Hardware and later Fitton Hardware until 1967. She studied Music and graduated from the New England
Conservatory of Music in Boston with a Bachelor of Music degree on June 18, 1946.

An accomplished musician even as a sophomore in high school, she played with the Portland Symphony Orchestra second violin section for four years, alongside her dad, Tom, on trombone. She was a member of the Maine School Orchestra and attended four Annual Music Camp summer sessions in Castine. Eunice also played violin in the Bridgton Community Band and was guest conductor at their final summer session in August of 1947. She sang at many Community group meetings, often as a soloist. She sang in the choir at the First Congregational Church of Bridgton.

Her professional career as a teacher began in 1946 as Supervisor of Music in Derry, N.H. Her many years in the Kennebunk School System began in 1953, serving as Music Director at the Park Elementary School, and later as Supervisor of Music at Kennebunk High School until her retirement in 1979. She organized many concerts as Chorus Director and was loved and respected by her “kids” and for years after, with many continuing to correspond with her to the present day.

Eunice was a Life Member and past president of the Northern Cumberland Memorial Hospital Guild. For years, she directed the annual Magic of Maine Bazaar and spent many hours volunteering at the hospital coffee shop. Always caring about others, she was a member of the Pondicherry Chapter, No. 192, of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Eunice spent summers at Moose Pond while managing Fitton’s Cottages there. Guests from near and far became friends, returning year after year and always enjoyed visiting with Eunice. She was a passionate animal lover, particularly so fond of her kitty companions. Eunice touched many lives over her 100 years, sharing her wit and wisdom as well as her musical talent. She will be missed!

There will be a Graveside Service on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Forest Hills Cemetery in Bridgton.
