Ellen B. Stanley, 71
PORTLAND — Ellen B. Stanley, 71, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at her home.
She was born to Alexander H. Stanley and his wife Margaret L. (Sullivan) Stanley in Boston, Mass. Ellen spent her entire school career in Portland, graduating from Deering High School.
After graduating from high school, she went to work for the city as a nurse’s aide in the Portland City Hospital, which is now known as The Barron Center on Brighton Avenue. After over 40 years of service, she was recognized as being one of the city’s longest employees.
Although she was a private person, Ellen loved her cats greatly, and was an avid supporter of the local Westbrook Animal Refuge League. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and had many friends with in the North Field Green Community.
Ellen leaves behind her loving sisters, Susan Small of Portland, Jane MacDonald of Sebago; her two nephews; as well as a grandniece.
A memorial service was held at the Wilde Memorial Chapel in Evergreen Cemetery, 672 Stevens Avenue, Portland on Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at 10 a.m., followed by her interment at Evergreen Cemetery.
