Edward G. Bennett, 75
FRYEBURG — Edward Gordon Bennett, 75, passed on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine.
Edward was born on Feb. 5, 1944, in Raymond, the sixth child of Harold Gordon Bennett and Hattie Chipman (Mason) Bennett. He attended grammar schools in Raymond and Fryeburg and graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1962. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1963, and was trained as a fire protection specialist. He served at Korat Air Force Base in Thailand from May 1965 to May 1966, and was honorably discharged from active duty in March 1967. He served in the Office of the Maine State Fire Marshal as a public safety inspector for 35 years, retiring in June 2019.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Janet Gabrielson Bennett of Fryeburg and three children, daughter Shelly Bennett Mathias and husband Jason of Stoneham, and grandchildren Taylor, Brenden, Breckin and Jaydin Mathias; stepdaughter Cheryl Gabrielson Owens of Texas and stepson Michael “Gabe” Gabrielson of Stratham, N.H. He was predeceased by sister, Elaine Bennett Gushee of Fryeburg, and survived by her children Cynthia Gushee, Joline Gushee and her husband Tim Brooks, Diane Gushee, Barbara Gushee, Stephen Gushee and wife, Celeste; sister, Marilyn M. Bennett of Fryeburg, and her children, Rachel Andrews Damon, Richard Andrews II, Mark Andrews and wife, Mariam, and Elizabeth Andrews; brother, John M. Bennett of Manchester, Mass., and his children, Julie Bennett Littell and husband Bill and John Bennett II and wife Janet; former brother-in-law Ralph Gushee of Fryeburg. He is also survived by five great-nephews, three great-nieces and two great-great-nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Pauline Bennett and brother, Joel Bennett.
Private burial arrangements were under the direction of Coastal Cremation Services, 471 Deering Avenue, Portland, Maine 04103
