Dr. Hardin B. Grigsby
Dr. Hardin Bland Grigsby, 100, died on Monday, May 16, 2022, of natural causes surrounded by loved ones at his house in Bridgton.
He was born in Vincennes, Ind., on January 18, 1922. His parents were Osa and Walter Grigsby. Bland was the youngest of seven children. He married Eleanor Glen Atkins, also of Vincennes.
His career as a physician spanned 35 years. He spent six years as a General Practitioner in Lebanon, Ind., before doing a residency in OB-GYN and moving to Mooresville, N.C., in 1965. He delivered over 2,000 babies. The last several years of his practice were devoted to microsurgery as an infertility specialist, during which he helped countless women become pregnant and deliver full-term babies. He was most proud of the fact that in all of his years as a doctor, he never lost a patient.
Bland loved to play golf, he had a great sense of humor, and delighted in the simple things like good food, good health, and beautiful views. He continued to read medical journals for most of his life.
He is predeceased by his wife, Glen, his daughter, Tobey, and all of his siblings.
He is survived by his son, Greg Grigsby and daughter-in-law Cathy Grigsby of Bridgton, grandson Geoff Grigsby and his wife Tanya of Raymond, grandson Matt Grigsby of Asheville, N.C., and step-grandson Aaron Murray of Woolwich. He also has two great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
