Dale Thorne

SEBAGO — Dale Manville Thorne, 73, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at the Lamp Memory Care facility in Lisbon, Maine, after a short battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Dale was born in Gorham, Maine, on June 15, 1948, to the late Manville (Bud) and Barbara Thorne of Sebago.

Dale graduated from Potter Academy in 1966 before it closed after the 1967 school year. Dale was the first member of his family to attend college and graduated from the University of Maine Portland-Gorham, currently known as the University of Southern Maine, in 1970 with a B.A. degree in Accounting.

After college, Dale served in the U.S. Army at the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) in Panmunjom, South Korea, from 1971 to 1972.

After returning to Maine, Dale started his accounting career with the State of Maine and later worked for several private accounting firms. Upon retirement, Dale enjoyed working around his home in East Sebago where he lived for 43 years. Dale could often be seen walking or riding his bicycle around Sebago village with his dog.

Dale is survived by his loving family: sister Sharon (Thorne) Osgood and her husband Arthur from Baldwin; brother Michael Thorne from Otisfield; brother John Thorne from Hiram; nephew Steve Osgood and his husband Rick Fritz from Baldwin and Palm Springs, Calif.; nephew Kevin Osgood from Sebago; niece Leandra Womack and her husband Chris Sullivan from Gorham; niece Barbie Toye and her husband Ben from Windham; and several great-nieces and nephews as well as numerous cousins. Dale is also greatly missed by his special longtime friend Arlene Thombs from East Sebago.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 18 at 1 p.m. at the Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple St., Cornish, with visiting hours beginning at 12 p.m. Burial will follow at the Lakeside Cemetery in North Sebago.
