Clyde Wiggin

AUBURN — Clyde Wiggin, 91, of Fryeburg, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at the Hospice House in Auburn.

He was born August 20, 1932, in Stow to Fred and Marriette Wiggin.

He graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1953 and joined the United States Army, serving for two years during the Korean War. He married Sylvia (Baker) on June 16, 1957, and they spent 66 years together.

Clyde began his career at Phil Andrews’ Riverside Farms
in 1957 and worked there for 13 years, residing there on the farm. He then moved to a small ranch house in West Fryeburg, which he continuously improved over the years with his own hands, beginning with small outer sheds and a back patio, and eventually adding on a large family room and two car garages. His first job after leaving the farm was at Kearsarge Metallurgical Corp. in Conway, until they closed in 1982. He went on to work as a carpenter for Littlefield Builders until his retirement in 2006. Also, over the years he had a small strawberry farm at his home, and a side business rototilling and mowing.

Clyde was active in his community, serving as past master of the Eagle Grange in Chatham, as well as a member of the N.H. State Grange and the National Grange. He was also a member of the Fryeburg-Lovell JCs, the Fryeburg Fish and Game Club, the Alumni Association Board of Fryeburg Academy, The Cemetery Committee of Fryeburg, and the Interstate Sno-goers Snowmobile Club.

He enjoyed snowmobiling and camping, hosting a yearly gathering of his camping friends in the big field out behind his house, and was a member of the Good Sam Club. He was also a devoted follower of the Boston Red Sox, especially in the years following his retirement, rarely missing a game on television. He loved country music, especially the classic stuff.

Clyde was predeceased by his parents Fred and Marriette Wiggin, his brother Lyle Wiggin and his sister, Gloria Crouse.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Wiggin of West Fryeburg; his children Brian Wiggin and wife, Nancy, of Revere, Mass.; Robert Wiggin of Conway, N.H., Randall Wiggin, of Fryeburg; and Brenda Port and her husband, Robert, of San Diego, Calif.; his five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
