Charles Harmon

Charles E. Harmon, 84, of Bridgton, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones, on Monday, Aug. 26, 2019. his 60th wedding anniversary.

He was born Nov. 3, 1934, in Bridgton, a son of Clifford L. and Orilla (Douglass) Harmon Sr. Charlie attended local schools and, except for his time served in the Marine Corps., lived his entire life in Bridgton. He married Barbara Lamb on Aug. 26, 1959, and together they raised three children.

Charlie worked at the Bridgton Knitting Mill for 35 years, until the Mill closed. Not one to sit still, he began doing odd jobs, which he continued until just months before his death.

In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cribbage, harness racing, and going to the casino. In recent years, he found a love for bird watching, gardening, and watching the Red Sox and Patriots. Above all, he enjoyed time spent with family and being “Bumpa.”

He is survived by his wife Barbara; son Bruce Harmon and wife Toni of Bridgton, daughter Brenda Harmon of Brownfield and daughter Deborah Potts and husband Bud of Hinesville, Ga.; four grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; his brother Alphonso Harmon of Bridgton; sister-in-law Beverly Harmon of Bridgton; brother-in-law John Lamb of Fryeburg; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, and siblings Clifford ‘Junior’ Harmon, Frank Harmon Grace Cates and Clinton Harmon.

He will be fondly remembered as a hardworking, big-hearted man with a ready smile, who gave out the best hugs and Hershey kisses. He always enjoyed a good joke and mischief. He was dearly loved, and will be missed beyond measure.

A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12th, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Masonic Hall, 160 Harrison Road, Bridgton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sebago Lake Anglers’ Association, c/o David Garcia at Naples Bait & Tackle Shop, 38 Harrison Rd., Naples, ME 04055, to benefit veterans and children.
